Now from 1st Navratra, that is 10th October, I will even give up water completely.

and I don't wish to accept any drip and in this case it's possible that I can die before Dussehra.

Today I would like to tell you a story of a battle.

This battle which lasted since more than the last 40 years to save our Ganga river.

This story is of our Prof GD Agarwal, who died recently after the hunger strike of 111 days.

Died due to hunger

Come let's hear his story and learn from it.

Prof GD Agarwal was born in 1932 and  he took celibacy on 2nd October 2011 and became a swami.

He wasn't any wrong number baba like the most of the babas these days.

Babas these days want to get famous and believes in show off.

but he used to understand the real meaning of celibacy

You can say that he was a right number baba

Friends he was a highly educated and highly qualified person.

He had completed civil engineering from the IIT, Roorkee and completed PhD in environmental engineering from University of California.

He was even the first member secretary of Central Pollution control board of India in 1979

and many research studies were conducted under him, which found out that Ganga water has a special characteristic which can fight bacteria.

The specialty of Gangaji has been proved through 4-5 scientific examples.

I feel that the first initiative took under my guidance at IIT Kanpur and there we found whether Ganga has the special properties to kill Coliforms or the bacteria who rots things.

Professor used to think that It's very important to keep Ganga free flowing to keep this special characteristics of Ganga intact.

There shouldn't be any hurdles in the way of Ganga.

He has found out from his researches that the water after building of dams in Ganga had less capability to kill bacteria as compared to before the dams were build.

So he was observing that as more dams were built the capability was reducing even more in the Ganga water.

The special power of Ganga water.

This capability reduced to half at the place where that pumping station was installed.

The second report shows that

This same thing he has explained very well in his down to earth interview, I've shared the link of that video in my description.

You can watch that and understand this logic.

This was the only reason when  on 13th June 2008, prof. GD Agarwal took his first fast.

His demand was to keep Ganga free flowing till it's first 125 KM.

that is from Gangotri to Uttar Kashi.

and not to build any hurdle in the way of Ganga in the first 125km.

he broke his hunger strike on 30th June 2008 when Government gave him a written agreement that a solution will be made within 3 months regarding this.

and government appointed a high level expert group who will look into his demand and investigate and look for its possibility.

Due to his hunger strike, within a few months, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared Ganga river a National river on 4th November 2008

and at the same time a national Gnaga river basin authority was made whose work was to plan, monitor and implement all the projects which are done on Ganga river.

But unfortunately friends, inspite of Government's written agreement, no solution was made even after 6 months.

Hence Prof GD Agarwal was forced to start a  second hunger strike on 14th January 2009.

The points were very specified.

This time at Uttarakhand, Lohri Nagpal Hydro Power project was running on Ganga river and his demand was to restrict all the construction related to this

and to stop this hydro power project completely immediately.

many other environment activists and social activists joined him in his fast on 30th January 2009.

and around 35 days of fast on 20th February, 2009 he made government to bow down and government accepted his demands.

all the construction activities happening on this dam was stopped and this dam didn't build further.

In 2010 this project was completely demolished and Congress government of that time declared the first 100km of Ganga an Eco sensitive zone.

During this time in June 2011, Prof GD Agarwal's friends Swami Nigamanand  was martyred after a hunger strike of 115 days.

His demand was to ban illegal mining happening at the river banks of Ganga.

But the state government didn't listen to him at all, he stayed hungry for 115 days and after which he lost his life.

After this Prof GD Agarwal started his third fast on 8th March 2011 to demand cleaning of Ganga from Government

He broke his fast after 40 days when Government held a meeting of NGBRA..

After this on 13th June, 2013, fourth fast was done by him due to which 3 people resigned from NGBRA for no action from Government.

Now let's come to 2018 friends,  In 2014 government changed, Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister

Just like many people of the country Prof GD AGarwal too had many expectations from Modiji.

because he had promised a lot of things saying that I'm Ganga maa's son. Ganga Maa has called me Varanasi that's why I have come and all this has happened.

But it only took 4 years for Prof GD Agarwal to understand just like the other people of the country that how fraud is Narendra Modi

and how big Jumla baaz he his.

Government is completely betraying and especially Modiji is betraying.

He wrote a letter to PM Modi on February 2018 saying to restrict all the environmental unfriendly projects that are been made on Ganga river

to stop the construction activities and to pass a Ganga Protection act.

if these demands are not fulfilled then he will start a fast from 22nd June 2018 and go on a hunger strike.

No reply came form Government and he wrote a second letter on 13th June, 2018 and no response was made even for that one.

so on 22nd June friends, Prof GD Agarwal sat on his fifth and the last hunger strike.

he wrote another letter after sitting on fast and no response came even for that one

and it's not that PM Modi doesn't know who is Prof GD Agarwal.

because when he has fasted in 2012, that time Modiji had tweeted with grace......

So Modiji knew everything about it in 2012 when he sat on fast.

It's not possible that Modiji don't know that he is going on fast in 2018.

Even after that no reply was made for any of the letters.

On 10th July police forcefully took him away from the location of his fast and filed a petition in high court.

High court gave verdict in his favour saying that he has full rights to sit here and carry on his hunger strike.

July, August and September passed after that GD Agarwal, in his last interview said that from 10th October he will even give up on water.

For My life you might be knowing that Now from 1st Navratra, that is 10th October, I will even give up water completely.

and I don't wish to accept any drip and in this case it's possible that I can die before Dussehra.

and maybe on 10th October itself Government eyes opened and Nitin Gadkari had a press conference to say that he has released a  notice to maintain the minimum flow of Ganga.

The draft of Ganga protection act is ready and is been sent to the cabinet for approval.

Uttarakhand police once again dragged him from his place of fast, you can see how police was handling him here

He forcefully brought to AIIMS, Hrishikesh hospital to stop his hunger strike.

and next day in the hospital Prof GD Agarwal was martyred in the hospital due to hunger.

On the same day after his death, even our Prime Minister's eyes opened up.

and Modiji replied to all of his three letters via Tweets.

I would only like to say Modiji that if you really wants to give him a tribute then it can be given only through one thing

fulfill all his demands!

Whereas Nitin gadkariji says that almost all of his demands have been fulfilled by Government.

But Prof GD Agarwal's environmentalist and activist friend doesn't believe this to be true.

Infact scientists and experts have even said that Nitin Gadkari's notification of minimum flow  is completely inadequate and insufficient.

He chosen such a low number for minimum flow that I won't have any effect on Ganga's aquatic life and to preserve Ganga.

A Yamuna activist, Manoj Mishra says that the real purpose behind this notification is to clear more dams and more hydro electric projects clearly.

because the minimum flow number is so low.

he says...

here our Prime Minister Modiji should feel ashamed because he easily used Ganga for politics and election campaigning

saying I'm self proclaimed son of Ganga maa but when it's time to save Ganga in real and a real hunger strike is happening

then he is soo quiet, so ignorant that he even leaves behind our former prime minister Mon (quiet)Mohan Singhji too.

You might remember how he used to call Manmohan Singh ji MonMohan Singh because Manmohan Singh used to be quiet on corruption scams.

Modiji stays quiet more than him in all the real issues.

There's a man who is on hunger strike for 111 days, writing you letters but you have nothing to say!

When he is dead then there's a tweet for his condolences.

Even our main stream media should be ashamed who gave zero coverage to Prof GD Agarwal.

during his hunger strike.

The media woke up a little after his death.

But especially The Godi Media who is giving him negligible coverage even after his death.

They will immediately start shouting in their TV channels if asked to raise a communal issue.

But here the talk is about saving Ganga and the question is raised on our government then our Godi media is completely shut

I also feel ashamed on myself that why didn't I got to know about his fast friends 3 months before.

I will try my best from now to bring the voices of other people like Prof GD Agarwal to you in future.

Friends you might not be knowing but 36 years old Saint Gopal Das is still on fast for Ganga.

His fast had been on for 110 days that is even he has started his fast around the time of prof GD Agarwal's fast.

His demand is to restrict on the mining happening on the Ganga river beds.

and today on 17th October friends when I'm making this video even he has been taken to AIIMS Hrishikesh hospital.

Somewhere he is now leading the movement of Prof. GD Agarwal.

Friends now we have to take forward the battle of Prof. GD Agarwal.

our generation will now have to take it further.

Will you raise your voice here?

or just look at our Ganga river end up like this?

It's your decision now.

share this video and make the story of Prof GD Agarwal reach every one in the country.

If you like this video friends then you can support me on patreon.com/DhruvRathee so that I can keep making such videos for you

we shall meet in the next video.

Thank you.
